Written by Pasqual Flores | Dec 5, 2017 4:28:00 PM

You are clear that having a blog with your own editorial line will help you achieve your business goals and have included it in your marketing strategy. Perfect. But now you must know what to do to make the blog of your company succeed.

At DigitalMakers we always tell our clients that to have a blog that works it is not enough to know how to write the perfect post. It is necessary to have a content strategy and choose the topics that will be of interest to potential clients.

Otherwise, there may come a day when you do not know what to write and you run out of ideas. Do you know how you can prevent this from happening? Deciding the contents that you are going to publish and organizing them.

Start by not inventing content

We recommend that you do not start writing your first posts by inventing content. We are sure that throughout your professional career you have acquired a lot of knowledge that you can share with your potential clients.

Look for information in your internal work protocols, get inspired by the emails you send each day, squeeze the experiences you’ve had with clients…

And, above all, be constant and make it simple. Creating content should be one more of your daily tasks.

It will be easier for you to create content for your blog if you define an editorial line. Plan the articles you are going to write: how often and in what order are you going to publish them?

It’s what we in marketing call creating an editorial calendar. A very simple planning tool that will make you more productive with your blog.

3 simple steps to create an editorial line

Before writing a single word, in Digital Makers we follow 3 steps so that all publications are coherent and meet a goal. Today we share them with you to help you create an editorial line for your content:

  1. Find the optimal area of your business.
Focus on what is profitable for your company. Ask yourself these two questions: “Who is the customer and what are you looking for?” And “Where does your company add value?”. The intersection that arises between the two answers will be the theme of your articles, because that is where you are useful for your clients.

  2. Define the semantic fields of your theme.
Once you have found the main topic of the blog, look for semantic words. For example, for the topic “Means of transport” we would find several words of semantic content: car, train, plane, boat, motorcycle…
  3. Make an SEO matrix.
Investigate the market to know with what words you should position yourself to generate traffic in the search engines.

“Having an editorial line will help you get more visibility because you will know what content to publish at any time to have more visits.”

You are interested in finding those keywords that have a high search volume and low competition.

To do this, you can use free SEO tools, such as Google Planner or Google Trends, or payment tools, such as SEMRush.

As you have seen, there are 3 very simple steps that we apply in Digital Makers every day and that you can start applying in your business right now.

With our tips, you can now organize your blog by creating an editorial line. If you have any questions, here we are. Or if you prefer, we wait for you in the comments.
